Welcome Back and I hope you had a great summer. Music is a part of everyone’s lives and we are here to learn to make beautiful and moving music that we can share with others. Everything we do directly affects how much we get out of our experience here in the performing arts. To have a productive environment, we need to come to agreement with some rules and procedures and that is what this handbook briefly outlines. We are going to have an amazing rest of the year with lots of development!
Parents: We always need support. Arts Boosters, Parent Chaperones, & donations. Please join the Remind app, so you can get texts from me (your info is kept anonymous) Please fill out the wake county schools volunteer form-this can be completed in any Wake county school media center. Our band students in 7th and 8th grade will perform at least 8 times this year and we will have many trips.
A. Necessary Supplies: see supply list B. Grading Procedures
Daily grades, participation, 40%
Tests, quizzes, and performance grades: 60% Winter concert December 11, 2018 & Spring Concert May 14, 2019, Tuesday
Homework: All students are required to practice at home. Instruments should go home 3 times a week and weekends. Class work: When an instrument is placed in a repair shop, a repair order or note from a parent must be brought to the director the day the student comes to school without an instrument. Failure to do so will result in a ZERO on the daily grade. All students are required to have everything necessary for daily participation in band. Absent Work: Missed tests must be made up with director. Extra Credit: Extra credit will be given to those students who attend musical performances throughout the nine weeks.
C. Classroom Expectations:
The student is solely responsible for his/her instrument. The student should see that it is in good working order, properly handled when in use, and properly stored when not in use. No school employee will be held liable for mishandled, lost, or stolen instruments.
Each individually owned instrument should be clearly marked with the owner's name on the outside of the case. It is strongly recommended that the instrument serial number be recorded and kept at home.
School owned instruments, when signed out to students, becomes the responsibility of those students and should be cared for accordingly. School owned equipment that is lost or damaged due to student negligence becomes the financial responsibility of that student.
Do not play on Percussion Instruments unless you are a percussionist.
Be Respectful & Responsible and Be prepared every day, which also includes having music as prepared as possible.
Listen during class to music and to director
Be neat! No food or drinks in room, NO GUM
D. Concert Attire:
